The Cow Nobody Saw: Sita's Fight for Survival

Sita's healing journey
Ignored on a Busy Highway
Sita was found on the Anjora Highway near the Veterinary College, suffering from a massive, infected wound on her side. Despite her ear tag indicating she was an owned cow, passersby ignored her desperate condition for days. The irony wasn't lost on us - here was a suffering animal just meters away from a veterinary institution, yet no one stopped to help.
A Wound That Told a Story
When our team finally reached Sita, the sight was heartbreaking. The gaping wound on her side had penetrated through multiple layers of tissue. This wasn't a fresh injury; it was clear she had been suffering for an extended period while her owners neglected her care.
Months of Dedicated Treatment
We immediately rescued Sita and secured a safe grazing ground where she could receive proper treatment. For 4-5 months, our team and a few locals of the area worked tirelessly on her recovery by providing:
-
Daily wound cleaning through all infected tissue layers
-
Maggot removal and infection control during monsoon season
-
Nutritious diet to boost her immune system and healing
-
Round-the-clock monitoring to prevent complications
The Great Escapes
Remarkably, during her treatment period, Sita escaped twice while grazing. Each time, we found her 6-8 kilometers away, and she had to be scolded and encouraged to come back so we could continue her treatment. Despite the pain, She was a very naughty cow!
The Reality Behind Ownership
Today, Sita has made a complete recovery from her horrific wound. Her story highlights both the resilience of these magnificent animals and the tragic neglect they often face, even when they're supposedly "owned" and cared for.
Sita's ear tag marked her as property, yet she was abandoned when she needed care most. This reflects a harsh reality in animal agriculture - animals are valued only for their productivity, not their inherent worth as sentient beings.

Choose compassion over consumption. Every decision to support plant-based alternatives helps prevent stories like Sita's, where animals suffer in silence until rescue organizations step in.
Sita's recovery was possible through months of dedicated care and community support. Help us continue rescuing neglected animals by supporting our mission.
